The outdoor economy is becoming one of the most important forces shaping Appalachia’s future. Across West Virginia and the broader region, communities, businesses, and policymakers are working to align recreation, tourism, workforce development, and conservation into a shared path forward. The West Virginia Outdoor Economy Summit was created as a central gathering point just for that work. It brings together leaders from across sectors to exchange ideas, build partnerships, and advance the region’s outdoor industry.
When organizers needed a digital platform to support the summit, they reached out to us. The ask? To design and develop a system that could carry the event from registration through storytelling.
Symmetry designed and developed a custom website that unified the entire attendee experience. From integrated registration and tickets to speaker information and agenda management, the platform was built for clarity, performance, and ease of use across devices.
But the project didn’t stop at the website.
Through Access Appalachia, our Founder’s new digital storytelling platform focused on the people, places, and industries shopping the region’s outdoor economy, the team conducted on-site video interviews throughout the Summit. These conversations captured perspectives from business owners, tourism leaders, policymakers, and outdoor industry professionals working directly in the space.
The result was a deeper layer of storytelling that extended the impact of the event beyond a single weekend. Instead of tabling the conversations, the addition of Access Appalachia became a launch point for ongoing dialogue about the future of Appalachia’s outdoor economy.
For Symmetry, the project represents what we aim to build: not just digital tools, but ecosystems that connect audiences, elevate conversations, and extend the life of the work far beyond launch day.
