  • From Snow Closures to City Hall: Orchestrating Communications for the 2026 DC Auto Show

When the 2026 Washington, D.C. Auto Show returned to the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, it delivered far more than headline making vehicles and immersive experiences. It unfolded in a fast moving, high stakes communications environment where timing mattered, clarity was critical, and every message carried weight.

As the agency responsible for press and communications, Symmetry partnered with show leadership from early planning through closing day, supporting every phase of the event with a steady communications strategy designed to adapt in real time. That approach was tested in a very real way during show week.

A major winter storm that the media deemed “snowcrete” – a dense, ice-packed mix of snow and sleet that made travel treacherous and cleanup slow – forced the 2026 Washington, D.C. Auto Show to close for two days, immediately shifting priorities from promotion to public safety and trust. Symmetry led the effort to quickly communicate closures and reopening plans across all channels, ensuring attendees, exhibitors, media, and partners had clear and consistent information when uncertainty was high. Messaging had to move fast, but it also had to be right. That meant aligning language across owned platforms, exhibitor communications, press outreach, and onsite signage, while working closely with media partners to amplify safety updates and reopening details. The goal was simple and critical: keep people informed, confident, and connected.

At the same time, show week brought a major civic moment with a visit from Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser. Symmetry coordinated directly with the Mayor’s team to support her guided walkthrough of the show floor, managing timing, logistics, and media access while ensuring the visit reflected the show’s broader cultural and economic significance. From drafting and distributing the media alert to coordinating onsite press flow, every detail was handled with intention.

Throughout the run of the 10-day show, Symmetry maintained daily media relations, working with local, regional, and national outlets to highlight vehicle debuts, experiential features, public policy discussions, and philanthropic initiatives. Just as important was ongoing coordination with exhibitors and partners, helping amplify their presence on the show floor while maintaining a cohesive narrative about mobility, innovation, and impact.

The 2026 Washington, D.C. Auto Show reinforced that the success of a large scale event depends on more than what happens on the show floor. It relies on planning, coordination, and trusted relationships working behind the scenes. This year demanded flexibility, responsiveness, and close collaboration across organizers, media, and city leadership, and Symmetry was proud to support the show every step of the way.

At Symmetry, we’re a hands on team that shows up when it matters. We focus on clear communication, strong relationships, and doing the work that help everything come together, especially when plans change.
